Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Visitation rights of father of dependent adult

I am the caretaker of an adult dependent (25 years old). I receive court ordered (permanent)child support. The original divorce decree makes provisions for the father's visitation which he has never exercised. The last court order (2000) and income deduction order does not call for visitation. Am I compelled to allow him to remove my son from our home to another state for the summer as stipulated in the original divorce decree (1987? My son is disabled and does not want to visit with his father who has never spent any time with him or even sent him a birthday card in all these years.

You should consult with a local attorney who can review your divorce papers as well as counsel you about looking into getting you appointed as guardian of your son.
