Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

animal attack

While painting my backporch, 2 neighborhood dogs came on the porch, repeatly attack my car, then jumped on me knocking me down the stairs. The cat was severely injured and would have had to have multiple skingrafts at a University several hours away and a leg removed for skin to graft. She was put to sleep the next day. The dogs continued to the next house and fatally injured rgeir cat as well. Neither of the 2 dogs had current vaccinaton. I had no skin breaks but am terrified to go back on porch or do my lawn work. I am a single grandmother raising a grandchild. The dogs were fenced and an electric fence which either did not deter them or ?was turned off,

Re: animal attack

As a pet lover, I hate to tell you this, but under GA law pets are considered "chattels", i.e., property. You may have a claim for the cat's medical expenses plus the fair market of a cat, whatever that might be.

You also may have a claim of your own. Consult with a local attorney.

I am truly sorry to hear about your cat and your neighbor's cat. As a cat lover, I know the pain you are going through. Please feel free to give me a call and I will explain Georgia law on injuries to pets and the damages allowed. My number is on my website at www.glpc-law.com. It is too lengthy an explanation for this reply.
