back into someone car

My 18yrs old son barely scratched someones car backing out of the garage my garage in our private driveway, not they are sking for $1000 and treatening to sue.

Well, "barely scratching" can mean big bucks for some cars. If he did it he and possibly you can be liable.

What is your question? If your son damaged someone else's property, he or you can pay for the damages he caused. He should learn that now. I am not sure what else you were looking for.

Assuming your son did not break the law and not have insurance, call your insurer. You should have done that the date of the accident, and may have impaired their willingness to pay the claim if you waited a long time. Again, call the insurer and stop talkiung to them.
