Slander

If I have witness testimony that a co-worker has created and spread a fictional rumour about me at work and led to my dismissal, can I file a civil suit for slander in magistrate court?

Yes. You may file a suit without such a witness. The issue is the validity of the claim and not necessarily the strength of the proof.
