If you are living in USA illegally or out-of-status, Johanna, you will not be able to renew a driver license or even get a green card in a few years when a priority date becomes current. It takes at least 10 years in this visa category for most countries (and more for Mexico and Philippines). During the waiting time, you are supposed to be waiting abroad unless you have some valid long-term non-immigrant visa.

Had anyone filed the petition for you or your parents prior to April 30, 2001?

How and when did you come to USA?

What is your visa/status now?

What is your country of birth?

These are just a few of important questions to ask.
