Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I recently was fired from my job due to something that was out of my control. I was initially told sometime before I was fired, that if I was ever fired, I would not get unemployment benefits because I had violated policy. Two months later I was fired, but I went to the Department of Labor and filed for unemployment insurance anyway. I received a letter about a week later, telling me the amount of my weekly benefit and the potential weeks I could get. I wasn't clear on everything on the letter and would love to consult an attorney for legal advice, as to whether appealing the current terms on my UI would cause me to lose it completely. The amount of my weekly benefits only covers one of my bills in full. And the number of weeks is 14, which I hope is enough, but what if it isn't? Do I appeal the number of weeks now, or when they have expired? Do I appeal at all? I fear that if I appeal, the amount of the benefit will be lowered or taken away completely. The amount is also significantly lower than what the company was paying me, and even seems lower than a check I would get if I was paid minimum wage in my state (full time). I'm not really sure if any of that matters, but please try to help me make a decision on whether to appeal or not.

You need to discuss your questions with a DOL representative, who will explain how the benefits are calculated and the number of weeks. You seem to be under the impression that the benefits are comparable to what you were making. They are not. Paying a lawyer will only add to your expenses.
