Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I have signed on with a company for emplyment (W-4 form and all), but they have neglected to contact me for an actual start date. Being unemployed for an extended period of time, I was really dependent upon this opportunity, as I made several adjustments in my life based on the fact that I thought I had employment. However, due to this empoyer's negligence, I have now suffered major setbacks. Can I take legal action against this employer?

I am not sure what legal claim you think you have? Do you have a contract that states you are entitled to employment for a certain time, for a certain wage or salary? There is no general right or entitlement to any employment. You probably should follow up with them, and keep looking for other jobs in case this one does not work out or you decide you don't want to wait. Obviously, any mention of "legal action" or other comments indicating you believe they owe you something, might lead to negative consequences.
