Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Unemployment/Disablity

Hello:

I have a friend who is an independent contractor for a hospital in GA. She has worked there for 2 years. She was pregnancy and had her baby in June 2003. She is running out of funds and is without a job. 1. Can she collect any disability funds until she finds work again. Is there any money that she may be entitled to until she gets back to work again? She is out of work at this time because her job is unable to employ her again since she is not a full-time employee? If so, how can she put in a claim for disability funds and how much would she be entitled to.

If, at all. Can she receive anything? What are the Laws in GA concerning this.

Please advise.

Thank you for your help. My friend would greatly appreciate it.

Val

Re: Unemployment/Disablity

As an independent contractor, the hospital would not be required to pay her during the pregnancy. However, if she had disability insurance, the insurance company might be required to pay her while she is out of work, but it depends on the language of the policy.

Re: Unemployment/Disablity

Unless she is disabled as defined in a disability insurance contract, if any, or she is totally disabled from any work whatsoever she would not be entitled to Social Security Disability.
