Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Georgia

state law regarding demestic violence

There was an incident with an ex-boyfriend of mine that I was living with. He woke me and my child up, and attacked me while me and my child were still laying in the bed. I suffered a puncture wound from an object thrown at me. My child was hiding behind me in the bed the whole time. My daughter and myself took off down the road to get help. I called 911, the police came out asked where we lived, and sent me to the hospital where I recieved treatment for my injuries. There were never any pictures taken and no arrest made. I did speak to a county officer after I left the hospital, and told him I wanted to press charges. He informed me that the officer who came to the scene could do it for me, but they never did anything but question the guy. My question is if it is state law for an arrest to take place when demestic violence accures why was I denied justice, and what can I do about this?
