Legal Question in Personal Injury in Georgia

This is a personal injury case. I hired an atty. on 11-14-07. On 5-11-09 this atty. contacted me and said that he had changed law firms and I needed to sign a new Hippa Form & Fee Agreement. On 10-19-09 I was contact again by this same atty. stating that now he cannot represent me since his new firm is currently representing the person's business that he was supposed to be suing on my behalf. However, he was in the process of getting a settlement figure from another company and would get back to me. Shortly thereafter, I was told that he was giving my case to another atty. at a different firm due to conflict of interest. Now this new atty. has told me that I will only get a third of the settlement because both him and my old atty. still have to get their third each. Should I be paying two attorneys when the original atty. gave my case to someone else?

You need to see a personal injury attorney of your choice to review the situation, fee agreements, etc.

Apparently, you didn't sign an agreement with the new attorney or agree to a settlement. You need to obtain counsel of your choosing and obtain your file. If you still don't obtain satsification from their actions, you may want to contact the Georgia Bar.
