Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Georgia

Sexual Harassment in Church

My 16 year old daughter has complained about being uncomfortable around a Church elder (50 year old male) that stares at her. Last weekend she said the Church elder told her that she looked nice and she should ''put insurance on those breasts''. I believe this is sexual harassment and I want to press charges. Can you confirm if I have a case?

Re: Sexual Harassment in Church

Is your daughter an employee of the church? Is the Elder an amployee of the church? There is no general "sexual harassment" law that covers every rude, offensive or inappropriate comment. Second, the term "press charges" general refers to criminal action. Again, there is no general criminal law covering all rude, offensive or inappropriate comments. They generally don't arrest people for being rude. Re-post this under the criminal law category for further responses. If this is a church issue, you should present the issue to the appropriate people at the church.

I add to my prior response - If this is more than an isolated event or comment, or there is any physical confrontation (ie, the man places himself alone with the daughter, asks for meetings, offers rides home, etc.), you need to address it immediately, perhaps with a call to the police, just in case. The church needs to be made aware of this immediately, and their response may indicate whether or not it is the place for you and your family.
