Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

Settlement Agmt & Release

I am the sole executor of my mother's estate. When she was alive she broke her leg in the hospital. She passed away 6 weeks later for an unrelated illness. I receive a check from the hospital for 20K. since they dropped her while taking her to the bathroom. Will I have to pay taxes on the settlement.

The taxability of a settlement is something that you should discuss with the personal injury lawyer that negotiated the settlement. That lawyer, and/or the one handling the probate, will know the exact terms and can answer you. The wording of the settlement, and any good PI lawyer will know how to structure it, is going to determine the answer.
