Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois

Future Mortgage

I am going to be declaring Chapter 7. I am not married but will be next year. My future spouse owns a home. Only his name is on the mortgage. What will the ramifications of my bankruptcy be on the mortgage once we marry and will I ever be able to add my name to the mortgage?

Thank you.

Re: Future Mortgage

Your bankruptcy will not affect your fiancee's mortgage. The only possible way in which it might affect it is if your fiancee is using your income to enable him to get the mortgage because the mortgage company might wish to run a credit check on you. If they do and you have filed, then they might discover you have filed for bankruptcy.

Very truly yours,
