Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

Is it mine?

I recently purchased a camper trailer at an estate auction. I have a receipt/bill of sale from the auction company but no title as yet. 3 days ago, a man came to my door telling me that he is the owner of the trailer and that he either wants it back, or he'll consider selling it to me. He stated that he has the title for it, but that it is in the name of the person he bought it from. I contacted the people that ran the auction and they told me that I could get my money back, but that they published a notice in the paper for any claimants having property at the campground (part of the estate) had a period of time to claim and remove the property or it would be sold at auction. No noe claimed the camper and it was sold to me. Do I have legal ownership or am I obligated to return the camper? and if I do own it, how do I get the title from this guy? Thanks in advance.

Re: Is it mine?

This whole thing is a bit tricky. But I do not think you have good title. For the Auction Company to give you good title they needed to have the Secretary Of State of Illinois have a title issued to them and then at the acution they could assign it to you. They seem to have only done some of what was needed to be done but not all. I suggest you get your money back and go look for another trailer or get your money back and then talk to the person whose name is on the title, but before you give the second person any money check with the Secretary Of State to be sure that the person you are talking to is still in title.
