Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I bought a 2005 Chevy Malibu in 2005. At this time the finance company was HSBC. It is now Santander - who says that I only have made 48 payments since I have had the car. THis is ridiculous! Is that anyway I can retrieve records from HSBC although, they have been sold to Santander? Please help!

HSBC still exists, so they should be able to have the records you need, but if their records are wrong, you may still have a problem and you may need to get copies of all the checks from the bank you drew on to make the payments. If you were given payment books with coupons, you should have marked down on the coupons how much you sent in, when you did, and what check number each payment was. But start with HSBC and at the same time get a complete accounting of what this "Santander" company thinks your payment record has been. A credit report showing the loan as current may also be helpful.
