Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

A debt collector contacted me last week and is telling me that I cannot get a written copy of a credit card debt that he is trying to collect on because by the time the letter gets to me it will be too late, the cut off for settling is Sept 30th. Is this legal? Also, I tried to tell him that i haven't received a bill for this credit card or any notification from the card company since Jan 2007. Is this debt pass the SOL?

Thank you for your answer

the limitations period depends on either when you made your last payment or made your last purchase. you are doing the right thing by requesting proof that you owe the debt. keep asking for proof until they provide it to you. do not make any agreements with the collection agency until after you have verified you owe the debt. if you want to discuss further, i can be reached at 312-372-5600.
