Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

ok my best friends parents are divorced and she lived with her mother. a few years ago her mother ended up getting cancer and died on her. she has no family and her dad is no help. well her moms house got forclosed on and my friend got kicked out on the street ..she is now getting her life back on track and is trying to find a place to live. well we just found out all her moms debt mainly the forclosed house and her moms medical bills are on my friends credit..can they do that and where do we go from here and what do we have to do to get this straight or even where do we go?

Unless your friend agreed to be responsible for her mother's debts then her mother's debts should have been paid out of her estate. Once all of the estate's assets were gone, all the unpaid debts should have been discharged like in bankruptcy. Your friend needs to dispute the listings with the creditor and the credit bureau and get them removed.
