Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Lendor makes error

I have an outstanding car loan with a loan institute that about three months ago sent me a letter stating that my loan was paid in full. Then they sent me another letter stating the same thing with the title to the vehicle attached. I did not hear from them in 3 months, no statements were sent to me. No late notices or anything. Today I received a call from them telling me that I am three months behind on payments. What options do I have? They say I have to reply to them imediately or face reposession.

Re: Lendor makes error

Is the car in fact paid off or was that an error? If it was paid off, I would contact the lender and inform them that the vehicle has been paid off and fax over copies the correspondences and copy of title to indicate that the vehicle is indeed paid in full. There may be in error in record keeping by the lender. Hope this helps.
