Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

Jail time to fine cost ratio

I had 2 dui's and owe a little over $1,200.00 in fines, but have not had a job since last October. I am currently living on the street.(I get internet access at the public library) Can I serve jail time to pay off my fines? How do I go about setting this up, if it is possible. How long would I be in jail to pay off $1200.00? Thanks.

Re: Jail time to fine cost ratio

It would have to be something that is approved by the judge that sentenced you in this case. You would need to motion the case back into court and explain your situation to the sentencing judge. If you had a public defender in this case, you should get in contact with him/her. They can help you make the request. In some courts, the judge may allow community service in lieu of the fines, and have that service be calculated at so much (maybe $50) per day of service. The only way to know for sure is to make a request of the sentencing judge. For more information about Illinois DUI law please visit: http://www.shestokas.com/DUI.html
