Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review my question!

Recently (10/31) I was driving under the influence and hit a guard rail, lost control of my car and drove into a muddy field. I was arrested on site and my car was towed. I am 20.

I have a few questions. First, the tow company said my car is on indefinite hold from the police. I don't know who I need to contact, but they will begin to incur charges if I don't have my car moved soon. Is there a legal reason for the police to hold my car, or is it just a formality? I have been incredibly confused/ flustered as there is no phone number to call (that I can find) and I have more valuables in my car that I don't want to lose.

Secondly, are there any legal actions I should pursue immediately? My court date is in December (12/22) and I don't know if i should send in one of the petitions on the citation, or if I should contest anything with them immediately. I am simply confused as to what actions I should take now other than getting my car taken care of and waiting for my court appearance date.

In regards to the court date, what should I say specifically to appeal to the judge? I am a college student and I come from a family that is quite poor (single mother situation), and we're already struggling to keep me in school. Is there any way to get through this without being financially destroyed?

Thank you for your response, I hope you're able to address my concerns.
