Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

What does child support cover?

Hello - I am hoping you can direct me. I was curious if there is a web address I could visit to obtain some guidelines of what child support payments should cover? My ex and I have had many issues when it comes to additional costs above and beyond child support. For example; What about school fees, supplies, etc? Is that something that should be included in the monthly child support payment? Or would that be above and beyond support payments? I was under the impression that child support payments cover food, clothing, housing, education (except college), basically things that children will do in their everyday lives. I pay 1/2 of all fees for extracirricular activities, but should this be one of them? Any direction you could give would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: What does child support cover?

I don't know of any websites. Child support does not usually stop with college - it usually covers four years of college or other training. What your particular situation covers is individual. Child support is a broad term that can cover whatever a court calls for. Extracurricular activities can also be requested to be covered. There are many ways to go about it but you need to get in front of a judge and have it entered so there are no further disagreements.
