Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Discipline Vs. Abuse....How to help a friend in need

A friend of mines parents found out that she was having sex with her boyfriend. Both are underage and her parents told her that she could never see him again and ripped all of his rings off of her hand making her hand bleed alot. She(the daughter) then proceded to jump out of her 2nd story bedroom window to get away from them, hurting her sholder on when she hit the ground. She went to a friends house and her parents found out where she went they went over there. When they rang the door bell and the door was answered they barged in past the owner. The daughter then locked herself in the bathroom. The parnets told her to come out and she didnt so they broke down the door and dragged her out kicking and screaming all the way. I am wondering if what they did to her was legal or if it really was abuse and if it is abuse what can i do about it.

Re: Discipline Vs. Abuse....How to help a friend in need

Hello! In my opinion, the

behavior of your friend's

parents amounts to physical

abuse and battery of a minor,

under the present legal

standards in Illinois. If

I am correct in assuming that

your friend is no older than

16 years of age, you can

contact the Department of

Children and Family Services

For the State of Illinois

hotline, and/or make a police

report and take the report

to the local prosecutor's

office and see if they will

bring charges against your

friend's parents. I hope

my answer helps.
