Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My husband has been paying child support for sixteen years. The court order to stop it will take effect in June because my step son is graduating from high school. He has been 18 since November. My step son has plans to go to the Air National Guard and his mother has applied for financial aid for him to go to college once he returns. The Air Guard is also going to help pay for his schooling. What is our financial responsibility for college since he is going into the military?

Also, his mom has post poned a court date to address this issue. We were obligated to provide our financials, income, bills going out, etc. to the court and to her. She still has not provided her information as ordered by the judge. I think it is because she has not been gainfully employed in five years and lives solely off of child support from our son and another child by someone else. How will her unwillingness to get a job effect proceedings. Will that be a hinderance or a help to us?

750 ILCS 5/513 addresses college contribution for the state of Illinois. Read it, love it, learn it - or hire an attorney. Since tens of thousands of dollars are on the line, I would urge you spend a few hundred on a lawyer to ensure your husband doesn't get taken for a ride.
