Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Petition for self-guardianship?

My parents stopped paying for my college tuition after I came out to them as gay. I'm 19, so I guess I'm asking if there's any way to ''secede'' from them or something so that I'm responsible for all my own income and thus can qualify for financial aid through my university. Any help? What's this process called, and how exactly does it work?

Re: Petition for self-guardianship?

There is no right to have your college tuition paid for by your parents and you are legally an adult. Therefore, you can do what you want and go where you want. The process you are asking about is "turning 18", which automatically does all the things that you are asking for.
