Copyright?

Is it legal for a website to copy and paste an article from a news site as long as they give credit or does that violate any copyright law?

I am assuming that the whole article is copied, which would virtually always exceed "fair use." Unless there is a license to use the material in that manner, it violates the copyright holder's rights. Merely giving attribution to a source does not give a person the right to appropriate the material.
