Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Just about 3 years ago i was fired after being wrongfully accused of stealing money from my register...there is no evidence either way cause i found out later that the cameras were not working that night...upper management and corporate have just given me the run-around and wont hear me out...one person i did talk to that started to investigate said he heard 2 different stories of what happened before i even gave him my side of things...is there anything i can do? (sue, wrongful termination, get job back, etc.)

Why did you wait so long to seek legal advice? Defamation may have been a possible cause of action but you would have had to file your complaint in court within one year of the last defamatory publication. If the employer is still telling third parties that you were fired for stealing, you might have a cause of action since each publication renews the statute of limitations.
