Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

employment separation after short term disability

Employed in Sept 2006, I was out on STD (personal health issues)from Aug 20, 2007 and ready to return on February 6, 2008. Upon contact to confirm return date status I was advised that the company was bought out and my position eliminated. I received a packet with a separation agreement document to sign and return. the separation agreement states that I am entitled one week severence pay upon signature agreeing to not bring legal action against the company.

Is it in my best interest to sign the agreement in return for the severence pay?
