Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

second hand smoke

I work in a state correctional facility. I am being forced to spend time in the living unit for the inmates. Inmates are allowed to smoke. This is causing me to breath second hand smoke on the job. I am sensitive to smoke and get headaches. I am concernd for my health. Is there a legal way to put a stop to this? Does the state government and the department of correction have a legal responsibility to protect me from a known hazard?

you should make a written request to be moved because the smoke is causing you to have severe headaches.
