Can my place of employment refuse to take me back when I have release to return

I had a non-job related injury about 2 mo. ago,went back and worked 1 night and couldn,t do it. My dr. then wrote me a slip to be off until furthur notice. He has since released me to go back.Can my employer refuse to take me back?P.S.I am 59y.o.

You may very well have claims against your employer under both the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Sounds like your employer engaged in wrongdoing.
