Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I got a temp with the local city I live in working at the water dept.

I was told when hired that I would be working at least until the guy that was hurt came back to work and then there was a chance it lead to a full time job.

Many of the guys I was working with started as temp and were now full time.

Today I called in and told it was my last day but I know for sure that the guy that is hurt is not coming back for 6 weeks. I asked why but he said he couldn't tell me why I was being let go.

I know it was not the drug tests, I had two in the month I worked there. I never missed a day and I was always early to work.

Is there any way to force the city to tell me why I was let go?

Although I am sure it's frustrating to not know the reason, there is no law I can think of that would entitle you to this information at this point. If you had been hired as a permanent employee with the City, you would be entitled to know, however.
