Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I work for a delivery company. The drivers have varying daily start times based on the route. If we're given a start time and are there on time, can we be told to NOT punch in because the route isn't ready for some reason? We've been told to just sit and wait, then, when we're given the route, we're allowed to clock in.

This issue touches upon complex wage and hour regulations. The situation you describe is in violation of wage and hour laws. Your employer has dictated the time you are to report to work. You should start being paid or clock in when you arrive since it is to your employer's benefit that you be ready to go when the route is given to you.
