Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

ental lease ended in June. We never signed it or returned it and told him at he end of June we would be leaving at the end of July, 30 days notice. Landlord said okay, we owe for June and July rent still. He said we had time to remove times, today we find he changed the locks. Neighbor also saw him removing items from our house that are not placed back inside now that locks are changed. Husband called to get our stuff he said he wasn't available. What are out legal rights?

Sue for forcibly entry to regain access if you need it (works both ways) but by the time it comes to court the lease may be up - and to sue for an immediate injunction to force access could be costly and should not be done w/o an attorney. You may need to sue for replevin of your property although you may be able to get local police to intercede if you report it as theft - call them and explain the situation. Then see an attorney.
