Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
Can my landlord make me pay Legal fees?
I moved out on my apt on june 1st I receieved a bill forwarded from my old address to my new address in aug-sept. On the bill it said damages 380 and carpet cleaning 80 that's all the check said when I asked the landlord for a more detailed billing he said no I sent him a check paying the whole balance because I didn't want to deal with it. Two weeks later I get a letter from his attorney saying that even though I paid him the fees there suing me for attorney fees and court fees and I haven't even been notified that he is suieing me and I paid him over 2 weeks ago and I called the courthouse and they said I have court later this month can they really get away with this????
The landlord never called me once about the bill!!!!
