Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Lease Agreements

Both my ex-boyfriend and my names are on an apartment lease, however I'm the only one who signed. Does he have any legal rights to the apartment or can i put him out without breaking any laws?

Re: Lease Agreements

Hello. Legally you cannot forcibly

put your boyfriend out if he is on the lease. It will be necessary to file a court action against him. In theory you can argue that he is

"subleasing from you", since he did not sign the lease. You should have legal representation when doing this. This will be somewhat complicated, but it can be done. You may want to see if you can

negotiate his peaceful moveout. I

will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
