Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I live in a building that the owner told me not put in my own ac that they would do it, I've asked them over four times already to put it in as i have health issues, heart, copd,etc, do I have the right to put it in my self,I'm also a senior

You may be able to install it yourself and have some or all the cost deducted from rent after proper notice to the landlord - and if your building is covered by the Chicago Residential Landlord & Tenant Ordinance you may be able to even terminate if it makes the unit uninhabitable. I recommend having an attorney help you with these things.
