Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I just recently moved out of my house that i was in for 3 years. When I moved in I was going with my lanlords son. He and I paid a deposit of 750.00 To my lanlord. I am no longer with him but she will not give me back my deposit claiming she is keeping it because he owes her.. That has nothing to do with me righ tbecause he never lived with me he always had his own apartment which she owns. Is it legal for her to keep my deposit because of what they are going through or do she have to give me my money.

If you satisfied your lease then you should get your security back. A failed relationship with the landlord's son and his debt obligations to his mother are irrelevant from the facts you present. Maybe she thinks you can put some pressure on him - if you can't straighten her out you may have to head to small claims court, but if you had a lease you may be entitled to attorney fees and court costs, and possibly a penalty for failure to return security deposit.
