Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Illinois
M. Kansasii
My unmarried partner of over 20 years died after 37 days of
hospitalization. Hospital records document Mycocardium
Kansasii identified on 1/28/04 but fungal treatment not
considered until 2/9/04. Further, in 2002, she had been
near death with similar symptons. With a paralyzed vocal
cord, she (as a knowledgeable and alert Registered Nurse)
documented over 40 pages of troubling hospital and physician

What you need to do is to get the entire medical record-ALL OF IT-and have an expert review the record to determine whether the standard of care in the community in which the hospital is located was not followed and whether that failure caused any additional damages to the patient. What was the impression of the patient regarding the quality of the care and treatment she received is pretty much irrelevant.
You must have the medical records evaluated in order to be able to say whether or not there was a carelessness. An attorney well versed in this area should be able to help you out.
