Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Illinois

Can you help with a question about my son?

My son was admitted to a behavioral health hospital for depression and because he was injuring himself as well as suffering with anxiety attacks. While he was in the hospital, his meal trays included plastic knives. The first time this happened, I asked the staff to make sure this did not happen again since it cause my son severe anxiety. I was told they would try to stop it, but ''these things happen.'' Future trays continued to carry plastic knives, which he hid in his room and used to cut himself with while in their care. So we have any recourse against the hospital since he came out of the hospital with more injuries than he went in with? I did not, however take pictures of the injuries as this would have caused my son more anxiety. This happened December 2003 thru February 2004 and he is still under care for anxiety attacks.

Re: Can you help with a question about my son?

Are the injuries documented in any fashion? Do you have the medical records? If so, contact my office for a review of the records. It is difficult to give you a "yes" or "no" answer in this particular case.

Or consult with an attorney of your choice, but your first job is to get the medical records in their entirety.

I hope this helps,
