Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

Assault

My mother-in-law was assaulted on another woman's property and went to press charges against her but was told that she couldn't because she was assaulted on this other woman's property. I was just wondering if this is correct.

Re: Assault

That does not sound correct.

However, I have a feeling that there may be more to the story.

If your mother in law instigated the confrontation, I would say that it would be more difficult to file criminal charges but the technical answer to your question is that it generally does not matter who owns the property where the assault took place.
