Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Authorizing a lien on property

My wife authorized a lien on our primary residence that she is not on the loan or deed for. I owned the property in my name only prior to us getting married, she was never added. A contractor had her sign the contract even after she told him she was not on the deed or loan. Was this legal?

Re: Authorizing a lien on property

Signing the contract was legal. However, she had no authority for a lien to be placed on the house. Therefore, that particular part of the contract is probably unenforceable.
