Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Misrepresentation

The real estate company listed the taxes as 1,035 for a year, and at closing we were told that the taxes were 2,075.

At that point we could not backout of the deal. Our lawyer told us that if we backed out, that the owner could sue us for the difference of what the house would sell for. We would like to know if we can sue the real estate for misrepresentation of the taxes, because now it's hard for us to make ends meet.

Re: Misrepresentation

I would imagine the tax information provided to you by the real estate company provided a disclaimer, which effectively stated, "We think this info is correct, but it's up to you to verify it." Tax information is readily available from your county collector/assessor.
