Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

presumed abandoned

I assumed the rentalhouse to be abandoned because utilities were shut off, door was unlocked, rotting food and garbagein kitchen, nothingin cabinets no food or dishes, nothing inbathroom but trash,no towels, shampoo,or soap, closets cleaned out except for trash, garbage bags of clothes left in bedroom some wet and moldy,no bed or dresser.Rental agreement ended Oct. 1st.Outstanding balance on rent since June and no rent paid Sept or Oct.Tried to contact tenants unsuccessfully.Waited 9 days to enter after last contact with tenant who promised to pay back rent.He was not living in the house and had not come to check on his property during that time. The day after I cleaned out the house he showed up and filed a police report against me.Does he have to press charges after the police report? He moved what was left of his property back into the house and no one has seen him since. All efforts to find him and his girlfriend have been unsuccessful.Even the few last names listed in the phone book will not admit to knowing him or her. What can I do now?I was so sure he wasnt returning I had the utilities turned back on in my name and put an ad in the paper.I cant find them and the trash is back in the house. Can I store the trash and show the house?
