Legal Question in Tax Law in Illinois

Overdue sales taxes?

I have been paying sales taxes on my business on time and in full for a year. The year prior, my book keeper did not file or pay, so I have about $13,000 in backed sales taxes that I owe to the state of Illinois. A collection officer told me if I do not pay the full amount in 1 week, they will shut me down. I asked for a payment plan but he said no. I cannot get this kind of money...what can I do? I don't understand why hes being so unreasonable, especially if I have been paying for a year on time, and am current. Would they want to shut down a perfectly fine tax-paying business because of some backed sales taxes? What are my options?

Re: Overdue sales taxes?

The state of Illinois can be very difficult to work with, but it is not impossible.

Please give me a call to discuss this situation. Oftentimes when an attorney is involved it lends more credibility to your situation and a payment arrangement can be worked out.
