Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Do all people listed in a will need to be present?

My son's biological father passed away. The father was never a part of my son's life. My son is a minor. If he is left anything in the will does he need to be present at the reading of the will?

"The reading of the will" is a Hollywood fiction. In reality, if a probate estate is opened, then your son will be entitled to notice that an estate has been opened and a statement of his rights. If there is a will that leaves him a bequest, then whoever acts as executor is responsible for carrying out the terms of the will. If the estate is substantial, it might be in his best interests to have counsel to represent his rights.
