Legal Question in Criminal Law in India

i said to some of my friends for fun, that one girl loves me and she said she said she will die if i don't love her, later on i admitted to my friends that i was just kidding, the girl dint said to me like that, this incident happened exactly 5 years ago, she has come to know about it now( via local publication published recently) , she is saying she will file a case now, can she do so?, can a person be held for private conversation with friends?, is this the case of defamation?

private conversation, five years ago, may not have been defamation. But, its recent publication, be it may local, (1) if circulated amongst public and (2) there is evidence of public talking about the girl - then it would amount to defamation with fresh cause of action from the date of publication. She has one year from the date of publication to file the complaint for defamation. She will have to prove the publication and the impact of publication on her reputation.
