Re: want to invest in land in usa

I am answering this question on the premise that you are a resident of India who is interested in acquiring immovable property in USA. The relevant FEMA rules govern such transaction, a brief note of which is given hereunder.

The regulations provide that no person resident in India shall acquire any immovable property outside India without general or specific permission of the RBI. There is an exemption in favour of a person resident in India who is a national of a foreign state or immovable property acquired by a resisent in India on or before 8.7.1947 and continued to be held by him with the permission of RBI. A resident may acquire immovable property outside India by way of gift or inheritance or by way of purchase out of foreign exchange held by him in Resident Foreign Currency Account.
