Legal Question in Employment Law in India

I am working as a Systems Engineer (Software)for a Pvt Ltd company located in Bangalore(head office at Mumbai). At the time of joining in Sept 2007 the offer letter on which I signed mentioned notice period as 1 month.

Now the company informed us through a mail saying that the notice period has been changed to 3 months for all staff. I have not been asked to sign any agreement regarding this. When questioned the HR just informed that the company has the right to change its terms and conditions from time to time. Can the notice period also be changed according to the company's wish ? Does the company have the right to hold back my relieving letter and experience letter if I dont serve the newly enforced notice period?
