Legal Question in Real Estate Law in India

My father purchased a landed property in delhi in 1984 from his own earnings. in 2005 he did power of attorney (not registered) in my name (son). in 2007 father passed away. can his daugters (my sisters) lay claim on this property. my father lived with me from 1981 (i,e, the year he retired from governemnt service) till 2007. daughter's are married long back.

we are christian. please advice.

as per the amendments in hindu succession act, the daughters are also entitled to equal share in the property of their father in case the father died intestate i.e. without leaving a will. in case you father had lefe a will in your favour, the property would have gone to you.

As long as your father is alive, nobody has any right in his self acquired property. He can dispose of or give away his property to anybody either by Will or Gift or Sale or otherwise howsover he desire.

Power of Attorney does not give any ownership rights in a property.
