Re: what is a threat or slander

An action for defamation is possible if it can be shown that damages have been suffered as a result of the untruth or defamitory communication. It would seem that in the situation you've described, it would have to be business or economic loss in your industry or trade. You would also have the burden of showing that this slander was communicated to those who would have had an impact on your livihood because your reputation was damged. This means witnesses and a willingness for them to detail this under oath.It can be a very intense, evidence demanding and costly matter.

If these "insults" were directed only to you, to those outside your trade or even if they were, it did not cause you a loss of business, i.e. damages, then you would seem to be on less than firm ground in such an action.
