Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

child care expenses

Hello,

I pay child support for my three children, and in the summer, I have them for 7 weeks. During that time, I still pay child support, AND child care expenses. A friend of mine told me that there was a federal law out there somewhere that stated BOTH parents are to help with daycare expenses. Is this true? And if so, how do I find that law?

Re: child care expenses

I am uncertain about a federal law, but Indiana law requires that courts apply the support guideline adopted by the state Supreme Court. That guideline shares the daycare costs between the parents, gives credits for visitation and takes into account extended time by either reducing the amount due by half during the extended time or by determining the amount of reduction and spreading it out over the year. You may need, however, to request the Court to modify support if the expenses have changed since the order was put in place.
